FamilySearch: General News and Information

The following is from FamilySearch.

Dear Family History Consultants, Priesthood Leaders, and Stake Directors:

We are pleased to inform you of the following two events:

Genealogist Conference in SLC: The International Commission for the Accreditation of Professional Genealogists (ICAPGen) invites you to attend their annual conference entitled “Becoming an Excellent Genealogist” that will be held on October 22–23, 2010, in the Radisson Hotel in downtown Salt Lake City, Utah.

The conference attracts a wide variety of attendees, including individuals preparing for accreditation, students on the verge of entering the workforce, and seasoned professionals. Six tracks of classes will be offered.
Registration includes a printed syllabus, two full days of conference classes, and vendor booth access. In addition, the registration price includes an elegant, plated luncheon both days as well as time for networking. To receive a discount, early-bird registration is due by October 1.

To view a conference schedule and register for the conference, please visit www.icapgen.org, and then click Conferences and Events.

Writer’s Conference: This event may be of interest to family history researchers, especially those living in the Intermountain West. On October 8–9, Utah State History and Kanab’s Center for Education, Business, and the Arts are hosting “Writers of the Purple Sage.” The primary focus of the event is to teach those writing about the history of the American West how to get their books and articles published. This conference may interest many who would like to share the history of their families with a broader audience. In addition, the event will discuss historic research strategies to supplement the resources already available through FamilySearch. If you feel this event may be useful to those doing genealogy in your area, please refer them to www.cebakanecounty.org.

Sincerely,

FamilySearch Support
