SALT LAKE CITY, 14 November 2014—RootsTech, the largest family history conference in the world taking place February 12-14, 2015, announced today the lineup for its freeFamily Discovery Day event. This exciting one-day celebration of families is specially designed for families and members (age 8 and up) of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The day’s events will inspire the entire family to discover and share family stories and connections—past, present, and future. Family Discovery Day at RootsTechwill take place on Saturday, February 14, 2015, at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, and is hosted by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and FamilySearch. Individuals and families can register online at RootsTech.org.

Family Discovery Day in 2014 attracted more than 6,000 attendees through inspiring speakers, classes, and an expo hall with hundreds of exhibitors and interactive booths. This year’s event is expected to draw many more, with speakers such as Elder Neil L. Andersen and Elder Quentin L. Cook of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, L. Whitney Clayton of the Presidency of the Seventy, Young Women general president Bonnie L. Oscarson, and other Church leaders.

The content of Family Discovery Day is specifically designed to help Latter-day Saint families and members (age 8 and up) find and discover family names, prepare those names for temple ordinances, and teach family members and friends how to get started with family history.

Other guest speakers include Olympic medalist Noelle Pikus-Pace, who drew world attention at the Sochi Winter Olympics by jumping into the stands and celebrating with her family after her achievement in the skeleton event. “My family means absolutely everything to me,” Pikus-Pace said of her involvement with Family Discovery Day. “I’m so grateful to my ancestors for paving the way for me to be where I am today. Coming together like this, to celebrate families, is a wonderful opportunity for each one of us.”

Popular speaker and blogger Al Fox Carraway, author of In the Head of Al, will also be part of the day. Family Discovery Day will conclude with an entertaining closing event featuring the cast of BYUtv’s Studio C and another special guest performer to be announced soon.
Family Discovery Day is free, but registration is required. Visit RootsTech.org to learn more and to register.
