Forever Launches PDF Document Functionality

The following is from Forever.

Forever Launches PDF Document Functionality
Forever, Inc. announces that it now supports PDF documents at Forever.com to help families save their memories for generations.
(SALT LAKE CITY) February 4, 2016  Forever, Inc., the complete memory-keeping solution where genealogists, moms and other family historians collect, curate, and celebrate their memories now and for generations, is pleased to announce that it has launched PDF document functionality across their entire platform of products and services.  Forever made the announcement at RootsTech 2016, which is the largest family history conference in the world and is being held at the Salt Palace in Salt Lake City, Utah from Feb. 3-6, 2016.
“Our ability to support documents is a significant addition to the Forever platform,” said Glen Meakem, Forever Founder & CEO.  “This development proves that we are becoming a complete memory-keeping solution, one that empowers users to tell life’s stories for generations.”
The new functionality enables users to save and share valuable family documents, such as genealogical records, family trees, birth certificates, baptismal certificates, and marriage licenses, all in their permanent digital homes at Forever.com.  Users can also protect private and personal documents, such as financial records, legal contracts, and private correspondence.
While speaking to a group of RootsTech attendees, Meakem said, “Imagine writing letters for your children or grandchildren to read many years into the future.  Perhaps those letters are congratulatory notes meant to be delivered during events to come, such as graduations, weddings, or anniversaries.  Or perhaps those letters are reminders of important family values, traditions, or beliefs.  Forever’s powerful platform of products and services enables you to choose how and when you share important family memories and personal content with others, and Forever’s patent-pending guarantee ensures that you can leave a legacy that speaks for generations.  Whether you choose to share your documents with others, or keep them private, you can rest easy knowing that they will be protected for many, many years to come.
The company plans to add support for video later in 2016.
About Forever
Forever, Inc. offers the world’s first and only guaranteed permanent online media storage and sharing service, which is backed by the patent-pending Forever Guarantee.  Forever was founded and is led by Glen Meakem, previous Founder and CEO of the highly successful business-to-business e-commerce company, FreeMarkets, Inc.  Forever provides a permanent, secure, trustworthy place in the internet cloud – a permanent digital home with a complete set of memory keeping services – where moms and families can collect, curate, celebrate and permanently save their precious personal and family memories.  The company offers highly secure, triple backed up cloud storage, with encryption of critical locator data.  It also offers award winning mobile apps for iOS and Android that automatically back up to member accounts at www.forever.com, as well as web and desktop apps so customers can upload, access, edit, organize, and protect their content from virtually any device.  Forever guarantees customers who buy “permanent sharable storage” that their photos and memories will be saved for their lifetimes plus 100 years with the goal of many generations beyond.  The company can make this guarantee because a large portion of the money customers pay for “permanent storage” is deposited into the Forever Guarantee Fund, a restricted fund that acts like a permanent endowment or reserve, with earnings paying for storage, bandwidth, and migration to new file formats for generations into the future.
The company also offers Forever Artisan, the leading digital desktop scrapbooking software, and Forever Historian -- photo organization and management software, as well as Forever digital art, desktop uploader (Forever Valet), digital photo project design applications (such as Forever Projects), printing, photo scanning and media conversion services.
Visit Forever.com for more information or follow us on our blog, Facebook, Twitter or Pinterest.

RootsMagic and Ancestry: Working Together at Last

The following is from RootsMagic.

Recently, the genealogy world was rocked with the news that Ancestry would be parting with their “Family Tree Maker” (FTM) genealogy software. Thousands of FTM users have since made the switch to RootsMagic. But the question everyone has been asking has been, “Will any other software be able to search and synchronize with Ancestry the same way that Family Tree Maker did?”
Today, we finally have an answer to that question- “Yes!” We’re pleased to announce that we have partnered with Ancestry to bring these features to RootsMagic in the near future.

What does this mean for you?

Search, Sync, Import
  1. Search – RootsMagic will be the only software besides FTM to search Ancestry’s extensive collections of historical records from around the world and let you download those records into your own file.
  2. Sync – RootsMagic will be the only software besides FTM to let you share data between your RootsMagic files on your computer with your personal Ancestry online trees. You’ll also be able to download people, events, and even pictures from Ancestry onto your computer through RootsMagic.
  3. Import – RootsMagic will be able to directly import your Family Tree Maker files, without having to go through an intermediate GEDCOM file, giving you the cleanest, most complete transfer of your data. RootsMagic will also be able to download your online trees from Ancestry.
Yes, this is big news and we’re sure you have many questions about it.
Please visit www.rootsmagic.com/ancestry for more information.

New Family Tree Maker™ Options

The following is from Ancestry.com.

Ancestry

Dear Family Tree Maker™ community,

Since our Family Tree Maker announcement last December, we have continued to actively explore ways to develop and support Family Tree Maker and ensure you have choices to preserve your work in ways that matter to you.

Today, we are pleased to announce two options for desktop software that will work with Ancestry.

Software MacKiev

Software MacKiev, with whom we have a long-standing relationship, is acquiring the Family Tree Maker software line as publisher for both Mac and Windows versions. Software MacKiev has been the developer of Family Tree Maker for Mac for more than six years and is thrilled at the opportunity to publish future versions of Family Tree Maker for Mac and Windows.

This new agreement means you will receive software updates and new versions from Software MacKiev, and have the ability to purchase new versions of Family Tree Maker from Software MacKiev as they are released. You will have continued access to Ancestry Hints, Ancestry searches, and be able to save your tree on Ancestry with Family Tree Maker moving forward.

RootsMagic

We have made an agreement with RootsMagic, a leading genealogy desktop software program publisher, to connect Ancestry with the RootsMagic software by the end of 2016. With this new relationship, RootsMagic can serve as your desktop family tree software, while having access to Ancestry hints, Ancestry searches, and the ability to save your tree on Ancestry.

We have heard your concerns and are working to provide the solutions you requested. These new agreements will make it possible to preserve your work on Ancestry and Family Tree Maker and enable future features and benefits to help you discover your family history. Be assured that Ancestry, in cooperation with Software MacKiev and RootsMagic, will continue to support you as you discover your family history.

We ask for your patience as we work diligently through all the details to make these solutions available. You can find additional details about these Family Tree Maker partnerships on our blog. We also encourage you to continue to check back on our blog for future updates in the coming months.

Title:  Reconstructing Black Community Life Through Benevolent Societies

DateTuesday, February 9, 2016, 8:00 pm Central

Description: Benevolent societies had a major impact on the social fabric of African American communities. This session explores several groups that impacted black families in multiple states. Most of the organizations of the late 19th century and 20th century are long gone, but their stories lie buried in cemeteries throughout the nation and a rich community history can be discovered by knowing how to recognize them in African American cemeteries throughout the nation.

Presenter: Anglea Walton-Raji

She hosts the weekly African Roots Podcast devoted to African American genealogy news, methods and events, and is also one of the founding members of AfriGeneas.com, the oldest online website community for African American genealogy.

Ms. Walton-Raji hosts 3 genealogy blogs, and is moderator of an ongoing genealogy message board devoted to Native American genealogy. She also authored the book “Black Indian Genealogy Research” first published in 1993 and revised in 2007 This book is the first and only book that addresses the documentation of African-Americans with ties to Native Americans within the family structure. She is also active on social media from Facebook to Twitter and hosts a YouTube channel, African Roots TV.

For over a decade she was a featured speaker at a number of Smithsonian events, and she is the only genealogist in the nation to present regular genealogy lectures at the National Museum of the American Indian in both Washington DC, and New York facilities. She was awarded the honor of presenting a special series of genealogy lectures to coincide with the Smithsonian Exhibition IndiVisible that has been traveling throughout the nation.
